Most of us know that we should visit the dentist regularly for a thorough cleaning and exam. It is during these routine checkups that your smile gets the focused attention it needs to stay healthy and beautiful.
Your dental hygienist and dentist will give your teeth, gums, and mouth a thorough exam to look for any signs of problems. In most cases, new patients will receive both an exam and a teeth cleaning at the same appointment.
If we spot any problems, we’ll make recommendations for treatment accordingly. We often recommend fluoride applications, especially for kids. Fluoride applied directly to the teeth can:
Gum disease is another big problem that we’ll look for at your cleaning and exam. If your mouth is suffering from gum disease, a deep cleaning treatment will help. We will remove built-up plaque, tartar, and bacteria from your teeth and gums and get your mouth back on course for healing.
Visit us every six months for dental cleanings and exams in Tenafly to keep your smile healthy and bright! Call Summit Dental today at 201-347-1417 for an appointment, or schedule online. We can’t wait to help you enjoy a beautiful smile.

Great dentist and staff. Very glad I chose to come here for my dental visit. Definitely recommend to friends and family!
This was my first visit at a new dentist office and I was nervous to get my checkup. I enjoyed my hygienist Carmen, the cleaning it was very thorough and the staff was very professional. I will definitely be back for my 6 month visit!
Dr. LaPera had been my dentist for 15 years. He is extremely professional and has a wonderful pleasant manner. I recommended him to a friend from NYC and she now goes regularly. I am fortunate to have found him when I moved from NY.
Excellent dental practice. I have been a patient for 20 years. The doctors and staff are professional, on time and caring. Great communication and they always put the patient’s needs first. I have recommended Summit Dental to other friends who have also been highly satisfied. My teeth love these guys.
This is the best dentist I have been to. The place is very clean they have been sanitizing everything down before covid-19 came into existence. The doctor is the best dentist i know of he is very kind, patient, and gentle. His work is perfect.
I would highly recommend this dental practice for all dental care. Dr. Le Pera is a true perfectionist and his care for the patients is his main priority. My experience is my main focus to this review. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. Carmen, the Hygienist, is also a wonderful asset to the practice. She is thorough with her cleanings and care for her patients. Definitely an A+
Loved my hygienist Carmen. She gave me lots of helpful tips and didn’t use electric tools to clean. I loved this because I have a lot of sensitivity and the electric tools exacerbates my symptoms. Which means she listened to my worries and honored them. Dr. Le Pera is awesome as always and keeps me well informed.
Really the best dentist I could ever ask for. I know they are a trusted source and Dr. L is truly one of a kind. Someone who genuinely cares about his clients- it always feels like family. I do all my work here- what I love is that if Dr. L is super honest – and if he knows of someone better suited for a particular procedure he will tell me transparently and recommend the best. No dentist can beat him. He doesn’t look to do more work than needed and always takes a conservative approach to help retain your natural teeth as much as possible. (Important to me since I’ve broken my 3 front teeth in half due to a fall and he’s done brilliant veneers). The receptionist and support staff are lovely as well. And if you need a cleaning ask for Carmen – she’s fantastic.
From the warm welcome upon arrival, to the thorough cleaning by Carmen the Hygienist, to the professional and gentle exam by Dr Le Pera, my experience was terrific. I’ll be back!
Both your dental hygienist and your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth to find indicators of any troubles. We may also take photos inside your mouth with an intraoral camera, in addition to digital X-rays. After that the hygienist will completely clean your teeth, paying special attention to areas you could overlook at home. We’ll make suggestions for any type of services needed to keep your mouth healthy and balanced.
For most individuals, their dental examination and cleaning will take about an hour. If we find indications of gum disease, we may need to do a “deep cleaning” on your gums that will call for extra time. If you need preventive treatments such as fluoride varnish, they will also take a little more time.
Your dentists at Summit Dental suggest that you visit us a minimum of two times a year for an oral examination and cleaning. Regular checkups enable us to watch your oral health and make recommendations for any care needed to keep your smile healthy. At your regular appointments, we’ll look for dental caries, gum disease, oral cancer, and various other problems.
It all depends on the type of treatment you receive during your appointment. If our dental team has applied fluoride treatments to your teeth, you’ll want to wait at least 30 minutes before you eat. Otherwise, there’s no reason to wait at all! However, many people prefer to wait awhile since their teeth and gums may feel a bit sensitive after their cleaning.
We can see you as soon as tomorrow!
